Quick answer

Updated November 3, 2026

How much does Intercom (Fin) cost?

Intercom costs $29, $85 or $132 per seat per month billed annually (Essential, Advanced and Expert), or $39, $99 and $139 billed monthly. The Fin AI agent is billed separately at $0.99 per outcome, which is mostly resolved conversations. On another help desk, Fin has no seat fee but a 50-outcome monthly minimum. Copilot for human agents is about $35 per user per month.

A 5-person team on Advanced whose AI resolves 500 chats a month pays about $920 a month before add-ons. For comparison, Social Intents is a flat $39 to $199 a month with AI answers included and unlimited seats on Basic and up.

What counts as a billable outcome

Resolution: $0.99

The customer does not ask for more help after Fin’s last answer. This is the outcome most support teams pay for.

Procedure handoff: $0.99

Fin completes a configured procedure and hands the conversation on. Billed once per conversation.

Qualification: $9.99

In sales use, Fin qualifies a lead. Disqualification and self-serve routing are $0.99 each.

Not billed

Escalations to a human, questions Fin cannot answer, frustrated customers and abandoned chats are not charged.

2,500$2,4755,000Pro · $99
5,000$4,95010,000Business · $199

The budgeting catch: the better Fin performs, the more you pay. A busy month or a seasonal spike raises the bill with no ceiling unless you set a hard limit, and a hard limit means Fin stops answering. Fin figures above exclude seats or help desk fees.

Move the sliders to match your team. Intercom is calculated from published per-seat prices plus $0.99 per Fin outcome.

Fin only bills resolved outcomes, so this drives the AI line.

Intercom estimate uses annual seat prices and $0.99 per Fin outcome, excluding Copilot, add-ons and usage channels. “Fin only” applies the 50-outcome minimum and excludes your help desk fees. Social Intents uses the smallest annual plan that covers your chats.

Examples

What Intercom costs at three team sizes

Same assumptions throughout: annual billing, ticketing on both sides, and the AI resolves half of all chats.

Intercom vs Social Intents monthly cost by team size
Team Intercom / month Social Intents / month Saved per year
Small team3 agents on Essential · 400 chats · 200 Fin outcomes $285 $99Pro $2,232
Growing team8 agents on Advanced · 2,000 chats · 1,000 Fin outcomes $1,670 $99Pro $18,852
Large team20 agents on Expert · 8,000 chats · 4,000 Fin outcomes $6,600 $199Business $76,812

Intercom totals = seats × annual seat price + Fin outcomes × $0.99. Copilot, Proactive Support and usage-based channels would add to these figures. Social Intents is shown on Pro or higher so ticketing is included on both sides.

Budgeting

How to forecast a per-outcome bill

Four things that move Fin spend from month to month.

Success raises the bill

Every improvement to your help content lifts the resolution rate, and that raises what you pay.

Seasonal spikes

Holiday rushes and launches multiply outcomes. There is no ceiling unless you set one.

Hard limits stop the AI

Once a hard limit is hit, Fin stops resolving and customers wait for a person.

Sales outcomes cost 10x

Qualified leads are $9.99 each, so sales use cases budget very differently from support.

Verdict

Is Intercom worth the price?

It depends on whether you use the depth you pay for.

Where Intercom earns its price

A fair read of what you get.

  • A mature all-in-one suite with inbox, help center, tickets, product tours and reporting
  • Fin is a strong AI agent with procedures, and you only pay when it delivers an outcome
  • Deep workflows, SLAs and HIPAA support on higher tiers
  • A 14-day free trial with Fin included

Where the bill grows

Costs to model before you sign.

  • Every agent needs a paid seat, so headcount growth raises the bill
  • Fin outcomes are uncapped by default, so success and seasonal spikes cost more
  • Copilot, Proactive Support and the Pro add-on are extra line items
  • Agents work in the Intercom inbox, not in Microsoft Teams or Slack

Intercom and Fin pricing FAQ

Short answers to the questions teams ask before signing an Intercom or Fin contract.

How much does Intercom cost per month?

Intercom costs $29 (Essential), $85 (Advanced) or $132 (Expert) per seat per month billed annually, or $39, $99 and $139 billed monthly. Fin AI outcomes are billed on top at $0.99 each. A 5-agent team on Advanced pays $425 a month in seats before any AI usage.

Is Intercom now called Fin?

Partly. In May 2026 the company renamed itself Fin. Intercom remains the name of its customer service platform (inbox, help center and ticketing), and Fin is the AI agent. Both are priced on this page.

Is Fin AI included in Intercom plans?

Fin is available on every Intercom plan, but it is not free. Each billable outcome, mostly a resolved conversation, costs $0.99, so Fin appears on your invoice as a usage charge on top of seats.

What counts as a Fin outcome?

Resolutions (the customer does not ask for more help), procedure handoffs, disqualifications and self-serve routing are $0.99 each. A qualified sales lead is $9.99. Escalations to a human, unanswered questions and abandoned chats are not billed, and Intercom charges at most one outcome per conversation.

Can I use Fin without Intercom?

Yes. Fin can run on Zendesk, Salesforce, HubSpot, Freshdesk, Front, Zoho, Gorgias and other help desks at $0.99 per outcome, with a 50-outcome monthly minimum and no seat or platform fees. You still pay for that help desk separately.

Does Intercom have a free plan?

No. Intercom offers a 14-day free trial with Fin included, but there is no permanent free plan. Startups may qualify for its Early Stage program discount.

Why is Intercom so expensive?

Intercom combines per-seat pricing with usage-based AI. Costs rise with each agent you add and each conversation Fin resolves, and add-ons like Copilot ($35 per user per month) and Proactive Support Plus ($99 a month) add more.

What is a cheaper alternative to Intercom?

Social Intents is a flat-rate alternative from $39 a month, with an AI agent powered by ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini included and unlimited agents from the $69 Basic plan. Agents can answer from Microsoft Teams, Slack or Google Chat. See our Intercom alternative comparison.

Can I cap my Intercom Fin spend?

Yes. Intercom provides usage alerts and hard limits. Once a hard limit is reached Fin stops resolving conversations, so customers wait for a person instead.
